COORDINATOR : AFOLABI JOSEPH OLAJIDE

Joab led out the armed forces… But David
remained at Jerusalem : David should have been
out at the battle but he remained behind.

What happened when David remained at
Jerusalem was so well known that the
Chronicler did not need to record it. In his
leisure he saw a woman bathing, acting
upon his feelings of lust, committed adultery
with her making her pregnant, and conspired
with Joab to murder her husband (Uriah,
one of David’s mighty men) to cover up his
crime. A lot happened between David stayed
at Jerusalem and Joab defeated Rabbah .

Beware of moments and hours of ease.
It is in these that we most easily fall into the
power of Satan.  If we cannot fill
our days with our own matters, there is
always plenty to be done for others… Watch
and pray in days of vacation and ease, even
more than at other times.”
“There is nothing more full of subtle
danger in the life of any servant of God than
that he should remain inactive when the
enterprises of God demand that he be out on
the fields of conflict

While Joab and the soldiers are risking their lives,
David indulges in lustful thoughts and is overcome
by them. He commits adultery with Bathsheba and
orders the murder of Uriah.

The wages of sin are
death. Wrong thoughts generate improper feelings
that culminate in disastrous deeds.
When the Amalekite capital was practically won,
David was brought to command the ultimate
attack. The city of Rabbah was left in ruins and
David received the glory. Oppression and violence
ensued. Many Amalekite cities were ravaged and
the people forced to hard labor. The fact that
David had put the defeated king's crown on his
own head received great prominence, but in the
eyes of God it was not important. When we give
place to sin in our lives, our scale of values is
impaired.
What God values is righteousness of life, the fruit
of communion with Him. If we don’t enjoy praying
and meditating on God's goodness, if our practices
lean towards boastfulness and shrewdness, then
our life will be a failure even if we receive men’s
applause.
