We are reading from 1 Chronicles chapter 19

 From this scripture, we can see that after the death of Nahash, Hanun's father, David decided to sympathize with him and sent some men to pay condolence to Hanun 

But the princes of Ammon told Hanun that it was a plan from David to pay the land and overthrow him

On hearing that, Hanun took hold of all David's Messengers and maltreated them shamefully.

He did not stop there...

He knew that David would be angry with him so he hired weapons of war and made affiliations with the Syrians to fight against David.

When David heard of it, he sent Joab to battle and when Joab saw that they were surrounded both in front and behind, he split the Israel soldiers in two, and sent one part to Abishai to face the Syrians while he took the other soldiers with him to fight the Ammonites.

One thing I noticed from the comment Joab made in vs 13 is total surrender to the will of God. I also noticed that he put in effort as well
 He said  they should do their part to protect God's people and the city of God and let God do what as He pleases.

And eventually, the Syrians ran away when they saw the Israel soldiers aproaching. This also made the children of Ammon to flee

Eventually, the Syrians regrouped to fight against the Israelites but the children of Israel led by David, defeated the Syrians greatly till the Syrians decided to make peace and serve the Israelites

Ok from all of this, we should learn not to listen to the wrong counsel...
A lot of lives and properties were destroyed simply because Hanun took the advice of the princes of Ammon

Sometimes people come and report someone to you, don't just act based on that report, hear from the other party and also from a neutral source too
